Topical Humor

The 22nd Comic

Fresh from the front of my face! Topical humor in the form of the 22nd comic!

Generally, I have avoided too much of the current world. I just wish the current world would share that same respect with me. But it does not seem to respect any boundaries.

I frankly did not know what to post today. I have a small store of comics ready, but my supply is dwindling. Before I started the website, I wanted about ten or so comics at the ready to help fill in the gaps, assuming a two post a week schedule. (Special Edition edit: Ha!)

For the last six weeks, I have been posting one ‘new’ comic and one that is approximately 2-3 months old. But I am sure you already knew this judging from the HUGE change in quality…

See? I can be funny. Sometimes?

I just changed my schedule at work, so I am actually home on Tuesdays now. Thus, with all the abundant free-time of a job-seeking/remote-working/parent of three young kids, I thought I would most likely post one of my old comics and be done with it.

But then I had a ‘showerthought.’ I quipped to my wife that no-masks were probably the scariest costumes this summer. Now, I realize is probably not an original thought—but it amused me.

And that, amusing me (and likely solely me) is pretty much enough motivation—not to draw a comic—but post to Reddit.

See, I have been active on Reddit for a couple of years. At the beginning, under a different handle, it was mostly a time-sink. I did post several original jokes and established a decent amount of karma, but the time I was spending scrolling-after-scrolling was not really productive. So I deleted my old account.

Last year, I experienced several life-changes—and re-establishing ‘resolve’ was one of the happy results. I started seriously writing another ‘manuscript’, approximately twelve years after my last serious attempt at getting published.

While that is a story for another time (i.e. valuable content, when I am already over three hundred words today), I started working on a new ‘strategy’ for getting published—which is basically what you see all around the website, Twitter.

What truly inspires me

Back to Reddit (and I don’t even have to use the bathroom!)

In keeping with my brand, I started a new account (u/nomaplebar: caution, a little more ‘blue’ content) to try out jokes, content, etc. So, this morning, I opted to post my ‘showerthought’ to r/showerthoughts. And it was immediately removed for being ‘unoriginal.’

Much like a fly buzzing around a cow’s teet: how udderly annoying.

Thusly inspired, I drew a comic around the idea.

Ta da.

And take that, you uninspired bot monitoring the neerdowells at r/showerthoughts.
