It took me a bit, but eventually I settled on a particular 'look' to NMB. Yes, that look may be shite to some, but we all have to start somewhere.
I have always liked 'three' panel comics (sorry, Herman...Calvin...Farside...) and appreciate how you can do a 1,2,3 punchline approach in this style.
Someone annoying and who has a large mouth once said something along the lines of 'find a successful person and copy them.' I love that quote when I thought it was Michael Jordan---until I just Googled who actually said it.
Regardless, and with regard to comics, I knew what I liked and I tried to copy them.
And then, about four months after I started, I settled on a design I liked.
Lots of white space, Garamond for text, and fixed panels. I think I started using a template around this time, too.
